It’s a quick turnaround for players, journalists and fans alike, as Wilkes-Barre/Scranton will be right back at work tonight against one of the more surprising teams to begin the season — the Hartford Wolf Pack.
Or is it really a surprise the team is 3-2? It’s honestly way too early to tell. The only reason it seems that way is because the Penguins ran roughshod over the Pack last season, even dropping eight goals on them in one of their contests.
But there are some nice pieces on this team, Cole Schneider being one of them. He also has one of the best headshots in the AHL — here it is if you don’t believe me. Adam Tambellini also looks like he has 20-plus goal scoring potential. And Neal Pionk looks like a solid defenseman. So, I don’t see another season of routs in the cards.
Although, Daniel Sprong might like to differ. If he scores tonight, it will set a team record for goal streak to begin a season. I’d expect to see that same line with Quinney and Wilson; they’ve looked really good together.
Hartford lost, 5-1, last night, so I think the first 10 minutes will be key. Survive the initial onslaught by Hartford, who has plenty of motivation to play better after last night’s thumping, and go to work getting the puck deep like the Penguins did last night.
It’s also Zombie Night, so let’s all have some fun with that. See you at the rink!
