Monday’s session at the Toyota SportsPlex wasn’t among the longest we’ve seen this season — it was only about one hour and 10 minutes. But that didn’t mean it wasn’t one of the most grueling.

After a rapid-fire round of 2-on-2 drills, Donatelli had the players all line up behind the net and begin multiple series of full-length suicide skates (goalies included). For the most part, everyone handled them very well, but there were a lot of exhausted-looking faces by practice’s end.

Thomas Di Pauli stood out as one of the faster skaters again; it appears he is regaining peak form after his tough 2016-17

There were a couple nice scoring plays during the aforementioned 2-on-2 drill. Garrett Wilson and Tom Kostopoulos shared a series of beautiful back-and-forth passes before Wilson cut to the net and easily shoveled home a puck. A little later, Teddy Blueger hit a rocket one-timer that sped past Tristan Jarry and drew some cheers and stick taps on the ice.

Otherwise, it was business as usual. There were a lot of children taking in the session with the Columbus Day holiday, which was also nice to see. One got a puck through the boards/netting from Donatelli and was just thrilled.

Will have a story tomorrow about the banged-up defenseman corps — be sure to grab a paper and check it out.

I’d also like to get a weekly mailbag going now that the season has started, so feel free to shoot me any questions you have about the team.

Cheers!
