It’s been a busy day to say the least.
In case you missed it earlier today, Josh Archibald was returned to Wilkes-Barre/Scranton on a conditioning stint. Freddie Tiffels was returned to Wheeling as well.
Probably most significant was the signing of goaltender Anthony Peters to a PTO. Here’s a link to his career log at HockeyDB if you’re interested. This leads me to believe that Sean Maguire remains fairly ill and his status for the weekend is even more in doubt. I’ll see what I can learn tonight.
Two things stand out to me; Peters has loads of experience, even at age 26, and he has performed really well in the ECHL this season. So given the circumstances, he’s a good insurance policy to have for the weekend.
Milwaukee finally makes its return to Mohegan Sun Arena tonight; it appears the penguins will face Juuse Saros in goal, whom you may remember from Pittsburgh’s Stanley Cup Final run in the spring. He’s made plenty of AHL starts and looked great, so the Penguins will need to find a way to get to him early.
It seems like an obvious point, but you would really like to see the Penguins put together a better start to the game tonight to help protect whichever goalie is in net — not to mention to conserve their nerves and energy for the next two days of this three-in-three set.
Here’s the print scouting report if you’d like to know more about the Admirals. Should be a fun time at MSA as always. See you there.
