Not too much new news from today…
After giving a lot of the guys Monday off, Pens coach Clark Donatelli worked everyone hard on Tuesday. Practice was fast-paced and ended with a grueling session of bag skating. I’d expect everyone to sleep well tonight.
Here’s Donatelli’s updates on Zach Aston-Reese, Sahir Gill and Barry Goers. All three are currently out with various upper-body injuries.
“Gill is day-to-day. He’s getting better. I think Gill did well today (skating on his own) and he might be in practice tomorrow.
“Aston-Reese went back to school. He had a class he had to go back and finish up over these next few days. He’s still day-to-day.
“Goers is getting better. He skated (by himself) today and had no issues. We’re hopeful he’ll be with us in practice tomorrow.”
Here were the lines:
Jarrett Burton-Kevin Porter-Tom Kostopoulos
Garrett Wilson-Oskar Sundqvist-Ryan Haggerty
Dominik Simon-Teddy Blueger-Jean-Sebastien Dea
Troy Josephs-Cody Wydo-Adam Krause (Pat McGrath)
Frank Corrado-David Warsofsky
Derrick Pouliot-Brett Stern
Tim Erixon-Ethan Prow
Kevin Schulze-Jeff Taylor
My gut feeling is that Aston-Reese won’t quite be ready for the start of the series. If he’s not, look for Gill to slot onto the top line and for Burton to replace Wydo on the fourth. Once Goers returns, it’s likely he will team back up with Pouliot. Those two had a really good run together about a month ago.
