Hey, Pens fans!
If you’ve been on Twitter at all today, you’ve noticed a lot of NHL teams releasing their camp schedules and rosters. That, of course, means the season is drawing ever closer.
Pittsburgh was no exception, providing a schedule for Friday’s opening day in Cranberry and beyond. The roster sits at 56 — 32 forwards, 18 defensemen and six goaltenders. If you want to take a look at all the names, here’s a link.
Among the names I’m curious to hear more about in the coming days:
- Tobias Lindberg, who of course was traded to the organization last season but remained with the Chicago Wolves. He’s a big winger at 6-foot-3, but his offensive production has dipped since he first came into the AHL.
- Anthony Angello, who had one of the best games of any Penguin during the Calder Cup Playoffs last year and has had a full summer and the rookie tournament to build on it.
- Adam Johnson, who was by far the Pens’ best player in the rookie tournament and will be eager to build off a full season in the AHL.
Nothing yet on when camp will start down on Coal Street, but I’ll be sure to let you guys know.
Some other notes from the last few days:
— The Lightning and Crunch are teaming up for another five years. From top to bottom, it’s been one of the better partnerships in the league the last few years.
— NBC Sports Washington checked in with Pheonix Copley, who the Penguins repeatedly faced and beat last season playing Hershey. He was still recovering from his injury the previous season; curious to know how much better the Bears might have been if he was 100 percent.
— If you somehow missed out on the AHLTV unveiling, here’s a link to my short summary. All you need to know is the prices have dropped dramatically, and the video quality is supposed to be better. So, perhaps it won’t look like we’re watching a gothic horror movie now when WBS is playing at the Dunk.
— I’m starting to work on some content for the 20th season in team history, and am open to any and all fan feedback. If you have any strong opinions on the team, arena or league in general, feel free to find me at email@example.com.
The countdown is at 15 days for the first preseason game. It’ll be here faster than you think.
