InGoal Magazine did an interesting story on Pittsburgh Penguins prospect Tristan Jarry’s new mask this Thursday.

According to the Magazine, Jarry’s mask — which was painted by Alberta-based artist Jason Bartziokas — features the Penguins of Madagascar playing pond hockey against Tom and Jerry.

Why Tom and Jerry you ask? Well, according to InGoal “it’s a play on the goaltender’s “Tom and Jarry” nickname, which was given to him in junior by former teammate Kristian Pelss before he passed away in his native Latvia in 2013.”

Pelss, who played with Jarry for the Edmonton Oil King during the 2010-2011 and 2011-12 seasons, was just 20 years old.

Jarry, now 20, is expected to battle reigning American Hockey League Goalie of the Year Matt Murray for playing time with the WBS Penguins this season.
