When Team USA releases field hockey rosters for its national teams, the Wyoming Valley Conference is almost always represented.

Such was the case Wednesday, when former local standouts Greta Ell and Danielle Grega carried the flag for the WVC.
Greta Ell, a Holy Redeemer graduate and the 2014 Citizens’ Voice Player of the Year, is one of five players who will be offered a trial to make the under-21 U.S. women’s national team.
Ell’s trial will come at the conclusion of her upcoming junior season at Virginia.
“I look forward to observing this group and others from the stands during the college season as we look to round out the team before the new year,” U-21 head coach Phil Edwards said in a news release.
Grega, a Valley West graduate entering her senior year at Old Dominion, was named to the U.S. women’s national development squad.
According to Team USA’s news release, the development squad was created last year as a way “to nurture the talent of college students” who are in-between phases; too old for U-21, but still transitioning toward the senior team.
