HERSHEY — Hazleton Area senior Shane Noonan is a win away from the state finals.

Noonan, who just reached the 220-pound semifinals this evening at the PIAA Wrestling Championships, is guaranteed to finish his Cougars career in sixth or better on the state medal stand tomorrow. The rest of District 2’s remaining Class 3A wrestlers are about to put their own careers on the line tonight.

West Scranton senior Jeremy Seymour (182 pounds) and Dallas seniors Steven Newell (182) and Shawn Henninger (285) need to win in the ongoing third round of consolations to secure a spot in Saturday’s medal rounds.

Noonan avoided the same scenario with ease during his quarterfinal matchup. He pinned Plymouth Whitemarsh’s Paolo DiSanto in 2:46.

Here’s a quick look at 3A’s night so far during the second day of the state tournament. For more live updates throughout the weekend, follow staff writer Eric Shultz on Twitter at @CVEricShultz.
